local anaesthesia refers to the injection of local anaesthetic directly into the tissues, rather than near the nerves, as with regional anaesthesia. Sometimes this is known as ‘local freezing’. Doctors often use this technique to perform minor procedures, such as suturing (sewing) cuts.
